Willie Travick (W.T.) Green, after a long illness, died surrounded by his family, Oct. 29, 2012. He was 78 years old. He was born July, 4, 1934, to Doris Hagen Green and William Trammell Green, in Wakulla County, Fla. When he was 5 years old, his family moved to Olustee, Fla., where his father worked for the Florida Forestry Service. He attended Sanderson School until he was in the 11th grade, when he moved to Macclenny, Fla., where he graduated from high school. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska for two years during the Korean War. He enrolled in Florida State University and graduated with a BA in business administration. Upon graduation in 1957, he married Irma Jean Burnsed, of Glen St. Mary, Fla. He worked for the Florida State Penitentiary System for five years. In 1966, he moved to Oxford, Miss., and attended Ole Miss University Law School; he was president of his law school class and obtained a juris doctorate. He then moved to Leesburg and worked for the State Attorney's Office until 1970, when he moved to Crystal River and opened a law office, where he served as assistant state attorney as well as established a private law office.
He and his wife have four children, Catherine (Richard) Lee, Suzanne (Nick) Przystawski, William (Marnie) Green and James David Green. He has five grandchildren, David Przystawski, Alexandra Lee, Kevin Przystawski, Christian Lee and Spencer Green.
W.T. was a lifelong, multigenerational Floridian. He was a Mason and member of the Florida Bar Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and time outdoors; he enjoyed fishing, bird hunting and traveling with his friends and family. W.T. could build or fix most anything and was nearly always tinkering with, building or fixing something.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Murray Green, and is survived by his sister, Anniece White.
There will be a visitation service for W.T. Green at Strickland Funeral Home in Crystal River, from 6 to
8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. The funeral service will be at First Baptist Church of Crystal River at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, and will be officiated by Dr. Tim Lansky of First Baptist Church of Crystal River and by W.T.'s cousin and friend, Pastor Charles Scarborough of Valdosta, Ga. He will be interred Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, in Macclenny, in a private service. The family suggests those who wish may make a memorial donation to one of W.T. Green's favorite charities, The American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or another charity of your choice . Strickland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
