Samuel Dewey Horning died in a motorcyle accident on June 17, 1953. Samuel was born at McKinley, N.Y., Dec. 14, 1926, the son of Oliver and Phoebe (Scott) Horning. He lived there until about three and a half years ago when he moved to the present family address on the Fonda road, in the former Boshart home.

He was inducted in service Feb. 1, 1946, was a member of Company K, 91st infantry Regiment, and received his discharge at fort Dix, N.J. on April 11, 1947. Horning had been employed at the Beech-Nut plant for 10 years, with the exception of time spent in service. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church of Canajoharie, and attended the Methodist Church here after moving to this area.

On Oct. 29,1949, he was united in marriage at Canajoharie to Jeannette Stearns of Rockwood. She is a member of the staff of the district office of the New York State Health Department, 18 South Market Street.

Survivors are his wife, one son, Samuel Jr. 3, one daughter Judith Lee 2, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Horning of Johnstown, four sisters, Mrs. Myron Cromer of Johnstown; Mrs. Robert Coons of Ephratah; Mrs. John Nellis of St. Johnsville; Mrs. William Gay of Herkimer; five brothers, Alfred and Daniel of the Town of Palatine; Charles, R.D. Fort Plain; Everrett, Sammonsville; Peter, serving in the U.S. Army; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Interment will be made in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats.
