The remains of Mrs. Nancy Shelton Mantle of Glines Ward whose death was announced in the last issue of the Express, were laid to rest last Sunday afternoon in the Mill Ward cemetery.

The funeral services were held in the Gllines Ward meetinghouse, a very large number of people being present to show their respect to the one who had been called from our midst. Elders Israel J. Clark, James H. Glines, Peter Abplanalp and William O'Neil were the speakers, and gave voice to many words of comfort to the bereaved relatives. Mrs. Mantle whose maiden name was Shelton, was born in Washington County, Missouri, February 2nd, 1837.

When she was two years of age her father moved his family to Nauvoo, and cast his lot with the Latter-Day Saints. She was in the exodus from Nauvoo, and crossed the plains with her parents in 1850, and was a participant in all the privations incident to the establishment of homes in a new country in 1856, she was married to Thomas Mantle at Alpine, Utah County.

The Mantle family moved to this valley in 1881 and she again had a taste of frontier life and had to take her part in building up another new settlement. Through the hardships and privations that she has suffered, her health gave away long ago, and for several years she had been a great sufferer. Her friends though sorry to lose her feel that death came to her as a relief. She leaves a family, consisting of a daughter and six grown sons.

Glines Ward Gleanings

The wife of Thomas Mantle, Sr., passed away at 1 o'clock Friday afternooon. Her death was no surprise to her family or to the community at large, as she has been an invalid for several years. Nevertheless the blow falls with crushing force upon those who knew her and loved her most.
