Vi Johnson Anthony of Greensboro, died on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, after a long illness in the Health Care Unit at Friends Home West, 6100 W. Friendly Avenue.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at First Presbyterian Church and burial following the service at Greenhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the Virginia Gilmer Room at First Presbyterian.
Mrs. Anthony was born on March 23, 1923, in Elberton, Ga., daughter of the late Katherine Reeves and Roe Hampton Johnson. As a young girl she made her home in Greensboro with her aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. Fred M. Patterson.
She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School and St. Mary's College in Raleigh, North Carolina. She worked for the Rationing Board and was an area canteen volunteer during World War II. In 1944, she married James Boyd Anthony and became a homemaker. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for years. She was a member of the Junior League of Greensboro and did volunteer work for many years. She was a long-time active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed gardening, decoupage and living life.

She is survived by her husband, James Boyd Anthony of the home at Friends Home West; a son, Frederick Patterson Anthony and his wife, Burwell Thorne Anthony of Greensboro, their children, Robert Thorne Anthony and his wife, Jennifer of Fletcher, Boyd Anthony Long and her husband, Josh, their children, Walker and Lizzie of Roanoke, Va., and Reeves Anthony Sprange and her husband, Brent Sprange of Fletcher. Also, Mrs. Anthony's daughter, Katherine Anthony Phillips and her husband, Stanley Davis Phillips of High Point, North Carolina and their four daughters, Lillian Jordan Phillips of New York, Katherine Johnson Phillips of London, England, Boyd Anthony Phillips of Washington, D.C., and Lucy Davis Phillips of Durham.
Also surviving is her brother, Roe Hampton Johnson of San Francisco, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Katherine Drennan Hardman of Elberton, Ga.
