Richard S. Horta Sr., formerly of Bay Street in Taunton, died Thursday Nov 29, 2001 at the Newton Campus of Boston University Medical Center after a long illness. He was 57. Born and educated in Taunton, he was a maintenance worker for American Auto Auction and a member of Mullein Hill Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War, serving with the United States Marines. He had been living in Berkley. He was the son of the late Manuel S. and Virginia (Fratus) Horta. Survivors include seven sons, Richard Horta Jr., Todd Gordon, Frank Horta, Christopher Auffrey and Robert Auffrey, all of Taunton, Arthur Gordon of North Carolina and Derek Horta of Berkley; five daughters, Maria Palmasnal and Mary Lou Rector, both of Ohio, Charlene Horta of Taunton, Dorothy Moore of Texas, and Virginia Horta of Berkley; one sister, Marie Horta of Taunton; 11 grandchildren; an aunt; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced. Arrangements are by the Silva Funeral Home.
