Sara Dean Herring Gwaltney, age 95, passed away Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Estelle Exum Herring and was married the late Javy Rudolph Gwaltney in 1934. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Jack, Bruce, Tom (Kenneth) and Paul Herring. She was a faithful member of Dudley Christian Church and graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1933.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gwaltney will be held Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Blane Smith and Rev. Doug Dexter officiating. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Wayne Memorial Park. Family members will greet friends Wednesday evening following the service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Betty Martin, 216 Coral Drive, Dudley, NC.

Mrs. Gwaltney is survived by her sons, Javy and Eva Gwaltney of Sylvester, GA, Andy and Sherry Gwaltney of Pinehurst, NC; daughters, Betty R. Martin of Dudley, NC, Joyce and Garland Hardison of Plymouth, NC, Dean and Thomas Price of Dudley, NC, Nancy and Byron Dunn of Dalton, GA; a special niece, Delores and Manfred Hood of Grantham, NC; sister, Amy Daughtry of Goldsboro, NC; a brother Earl and Marie Herring of Goldsboro, NC; thirty-four grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and one great great great-grandchild.

Flowers are welcome and memorial gifts may be directed to the Dudley Christian Church, P.O. Box 859, Dudley, NC 28333.
