SYLVAN BEACH - William L. "Bill" Stoffle, 79, of Waterview Drive, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY. He was born March 10, 1933 in Lowville, N.Y., a son of Mylan and Anna McGrath Stoffle. Bill was a 1950 graduate of Lowville Academy where he played football and was a two time New York State wrestling finalist. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict while stationed in Germany. On July 30, 1955 he married the former Sandra Chase in Bennington, Vt., a blessed union of 58 years.
Bill worked for the J and S Steel Co., prior to purchasing a dairy farm in Turin, N.Y. which he and his family ran until 1976 when they purchased the former Gene's Bowling Center in Sylvan Beach. They operated The Beach Bowl until retiring in 2004. Bill was a former member of the Turin and Sylvan Beach Vol. Fire Departments, member National Farmers Assoc., Sylvan Beach American Legion, Durhamville Veteran's Club, American Bowling Assoc., and a 25 year member of the National Bowling Congress. Bill enjoyed traveling the country attending tournaments with various bowling teams and had scored two '300' games in his bowling career. He loved family, horses and country music.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by his wife, Sandy; a daughter, Gretchen and Roddie Loomis, North Bay, N.Y.; sons, Bill and Pam Stoffle, Memphis, N.Y., Kent Stoffle and finance Julie Peck, Sylvan Beach, N.Y., and Jeffrey and Lori Stoffle, Durhamville, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessie Cameron, Ryan Stoffle, Laura and David Patrick, Mackenzie, Shane, and Chase Stoffle, Alexandra and Scott Peck, Evan and Joseph Stoffle; great-grandchildren, Aaron and Daisy Cameron, and David Roger Patrick; sister, Rita Houpert, Lowville, N.Y.; brother, Gil Stoffle, Lowville, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Norm Valley, Pulaski, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Bill was predeceased by a son, Gregg Stoffle, and sisters, Kay Valley and Geraldine Klosner.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday at St. Mary's Church, Verona Beach, N.Y. under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, N.Y. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, North Bay, N.Y.
