Victorian, 2 Others Killed in Auto Crash

A Victoria County man, a son-in-law and a grandson, the latter two formerly of Victoria, were killed Tuesday afternoon when their car crashed head-on with a bridge embankment after tumbling 15 feet off of an overpass in Corsicana.

Killed were Gus George Weber, 70, of Weber Road, a stock farmer and retired county employee; the son-in-law, Alfred O Biediger, Jr. 43, and the grandson, Dennis Biediger, 13, both of Hearne.

Biediger, an engine foreman for Southern Pacific Railroad, and his family resided at 804 Buena Vista, until approximately seven years ago. Mrs. Biediger is the former Miss Valerie Weber.

Police at Corsicana said the accident occurred at 2 pm on Interstate Highway 45 at its crossing with State Highway 31 on the outskirts of Corsicana.

Officers said the southbound car driven by Biediger went out of control veered between the north and south bound lanes on the overpass bridges.

It tumbled 15 feet below the overpass and crashed head-on with the embankment of the bridges.

Weber and Biediger, who were wearing seatbelts, were killed instantly. They were pinned inside the 1965 model sedan. The younger Biediger was taken to a Corsicana hospital where he died 45 minutes later from internal injuries and multiple fractures.

The car was a total loss. Fire units were called to the scene in case spilling gasoline was ignited.

The bodies were taken to two Corsicana Funeral homes and were transferred Tuesday evening to Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete Tuesday night.

Weber was a truck driver for Commissioners Pct. 3 until his retirement last year. He was also a stock farmer. He lived in the vicinity of Upper Mission Valley Road with his wife, Mrs. Lucille Heinold Weber.

Among the survivors, besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Elvira Diebel of Coletoville Road, Mrs. Biediger of Hearne and a son, Leonard Weber of Weber Road.

Biediger, a native of San Antonio, is survived by his wife and three sons. One of the sons, Tommy, is stationed in Vietnam. His mother lives in San Antonio.
