"William Austin, who had been confined to his bed for about eight weeks with typhoid fever, died at his residence Monday, aged 29 years, 3 months and 22 days. The funeral services were held at his late residence Tuesday at 10:30, conducted by Rev. W. A. Hunter. The I.O.O.F. of this city took charge of the remains of which order he was a worthy member. The deceased was also a member of the Modern Woodman lodge of this place. This was the first death the Woodmen have had since their organization here over three years ago. They performed a brief ceremony at the grave.

Wm. Austin was born in Madison county, Indiana in 1802, from where his father moved to Ohio soon after his birth. His father lost his life in the war of 1861-64. In 1871, the family moved to this county from Ohio, and settled near Kenney, where they resided until 1885 when they moved to Maroa. The deceased came to this city about four years ago where he followed his trade, carpentering, in which he was very successful. At the time of his sickness he had several houses contracted. He was a sober, industrious young man and leaves many warm friends, besides a wife and three small children to mourn his untimely death. But a few months ago, he had taken out a life insurance policy in the Modern Woodman for $2,000; this amount his widow will be paid at an early date."
