He was born in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and was the son of the late John Walton and Annice Lucille Watts. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy on the USS Antietam and retired from the U. S. Forestry Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Rogers Watts; a sister: Lena Mae Breedlove of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sons: Joel David Watts of Columbia, SC; Gary Bryant (Darleen) Watts of Lexington, SC; daughters, Lisa Joy (Jeff) Joyner of Lexington, SC; Dina Robinson (Matt) Brandon of Lexington, SC; Grandchildren: Jennifer Cook, Joshua Watts, David Watts and Kinsey Brandon; Great-Grandchildren: Kalli Watts, Rubi Watts and Alexis Cook.

Pallbearers were Joshua Watts, Paul Rogers, Jay Robinson, Lawton Robinson, Dwight Bachman, Andy Neese, Chris Shumpert and Ronnie Rucker.
