COVE MAN KILLED ALONG HIGHWAY AT DUNCANSVILLE

Howard Butler, aged 58, of 410 Poplar Street, Roaring Spring, died instantly of a fractured skull at 9 o'clock Saturday night when struck by an automobile driven by Elvin Sollenberger, aged 20, of Martinsburg RD, near the Duncansville airport entrance on route No. 220.

Sollenberger told state motor police he was blinded temporarily by the headlights of a car coming toward him and that Butler stepped out onto the highway in the path of his automobile. Sollenberger was traveling toward Duncansville and Butler was walking in the opposite direction.

Three other occupants of the automobile, en route to Duncansville, verified the account of the accident given by Sollenberger. Mr. Butler had been seen in Newry during the morning and again in Duncansville just before the accident, authorities reported, and was dressed in dark clothing. Coroner Chester C. Rothrock investigated the fatality and announced that probably no inquest will be held.
