Susan and Joel lived in Shelby County for several years before moving to Iowa about 1854. They lived in Page County, Iowa, on the border between Page County and Montgomery County. Joel served with Co D 13th Iowa Infantry, enlisting in 1864 at the age of 41 years. After his discharge they continued to live in Page County until a year prior to his death, when they moved to Villisca in Montgomery County.
Susan was the mother of eleven children. Known children are: Benjamin "Frank" Franklin Parker, Samuel Parker, James Parker, William Parker, Anneliza "Anna" (Rush)(Moyer), Edward Parker, Joel David Parker, Charles J Parker (veteran of Spanish American War), and Susan A Parker.
Joel died at their home in Villisca in 1887. Susan died at Villisca in 1899 at the age of 69 years.
