Jerry Soulis, the youngest of four boys, was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida.

His father owned several businesses in Jacksonville and while quite young, he and his brothers would help out at one of them, especially the store on E. Powhattant Street. Learning how to count money, stock the shelves and listen to what the customers wanted and needed. This provided him in later life to listen to all, whether young or old. Not many are able to do that, choosing one or the other.

The 11th and 12th grades were attended at military schools, one in Bamburg, South Carolina, the other in Deland, Florida. Both schools are now defunct.

While attending the school in Deland, he also enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and later went to Bainbridge, Maryland for two weeks of training and at the time, met his wife Janis, who was in the Navy, also.

The two married in Folkston, Georgia on 13 May 1958 and had four children. Jerry Stowell Soulis, Jr., Harry Cate Soulis, Rosalie Ann Soulis and Gayle Lynne Soulis.

They had eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Jerry did several type of work, being in the Merchant Marines, working on boats and driving dump trucks and semi's. When he got so sick in Brattleboro, Vermont, he knew then that is 38 years of driving had come to an end and it worried him, that he would not be able to provide for his family, like he was use to.

His passing at the Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida, was somewhat expected but still a shock to his family and he will be mourned for quite some time.

His remains were cremated and the Moring Funeral Home was instramental in taking care of that and other necessities in regards to his burial.

Jerry had been baptised while he was a patient at the hospital, by Father Young and the father gave the eulogy at the funeral services.

Attending, besides his wife Janis, was son Harry, I, Harry, II, his two daughters, Rosalie Ann and Gayle Soulis Fanelli, along with her husband Michael. Also in attendance was granddaugter Jerri Lynne, brothers, Pete and Norman; nephew Peter Soulis, sister-in-law Joyce Ann, Normans wife and two friends from Palatka, Larry and Louis.

An honor guard was provided, and the flag presented to his wife Janis.

Afterwards, the cremains were buried and all the above attended. First dirt was put on by Janis, Gayle, Rosalie, Harry I, Jerri Lynn and Harry, II.

Family and friends then went to the home of Peter D. Soulis and his wife Cheryl for refreshments.
