Sarah E. Shultz, daughter of Solomon and
Phoebe Schultz was born at Denmark, in
Lewis County, New York on February 19,
1838, and died at her home near Frank-
fort, Kansas on May 31,1928 at the age
of 90 years, 4 months and 13 days.

She received her education in New York,
attending the Young Ladies Academy
at Copenhagen.

She was married to Sterling W. Hazen on
April 26,1858. They resided in Martinsberg
where Mr. Hazen practiced law until the
breaking out of the Civil War, when he
enlisted in the Union Army. He was
wounded in battle of Malvern Hill. Mrs.
Hazen immediately went to the hospital
at Bedlow Island where she helped care
for her husband and others. During the
World War, advanced in years as she
was she did her bit.

They came to Kansas in 1863 resideing
in Brown county until the spring of 1864
when they moved to the place where she
has always lived.

To this union was born six children,
one son, Wyatt preceding her in death
in 1900 and her husband in 1906.

She leaves to mourn her passing, two
sons, and three daughters, S.M. Hazen,
El Reno, Oklahoma, Mrs. T.G. Mackey,
Whiteriver, Arizona, Mrs. J.E. Loucks,
Mrs. S.A. Reust and S.S. Hazen all of
Frankfort; one sister, Mrs. Amelia Wilson
Copenhagen, New York; one brother,
J.D. Shultz, Lyons Falls, New York; and
fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great
grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist
Church with Reverend J.C. Dussair.

Interment was in the Willow Hill Cemetery,
Frankfort, Kansas.
