Glenn I. Dunlop, 81, of Erie died Saturday, June 5, 1993, at the Arkhaven Nursing Home. He had been in failing health for several years and a resident of the nursing home the past year.

He was born July 10, 1911, at Plains, KS, to William and Margaret (Shipman) Dunlop. His family returned to the Erie area while he was a young child. He graduated from Erie High School in 1931.

As a youth and young adult, he assisted his father in farming. He joined he military police when the Kansas Ordinance Plant opened and became one of its first guards. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1942 until December 1945, serving in Europe and in the Philippine Islands during World War II.

Mr. Dunlop was employed by the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in the Crawford County office from 1946 until 1962, during which time he and his family lived in Girard. He then transferred to the Neosho County office in Erie. He retired in 1973.

He was a member of the Erie Christian Church and the Erie American Legion Post No. 102.

He married Helen Yockey July 15, 1942, at Fort Scott. They observed their golden wedding anniversary last year. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Stephen, of Coffeyville; two daughters, Ethelyn Marnell of Wichita, and Claudia Obenhaus of Erie; four grandchildren, Mark and Stephanie Marnell of Wichita, and Lisa Clary of Wichita, and Jill Obenhaus of Erie; and a sister, Gladys Doherty of Kansas City, No.

Two brothers, Roy and Lloyd, and four sisters, Flossie Green, Edna Wilson, Myrtle Eastburn, and Wilma Heady, preceded him in death.

Mr. Dunlop's body was cremated. A service was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at East Hill Cemetery at Erie with military honors conducted by the Erie American Legion. Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie was in charge of arrangements.
