Mrs. Ethel E. Yockey, 90, a lontime resident of Erie, died Friday, Jan. 19, 1979, at the Labette County Medical Cener of Parsons, following an illness of a year.

She was born Oct. 22, 1888 at Rockwood, Ill., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Mansker. She grew to womanhood in Illinois.

She was married Dec. 4, 1912 to Clarence E. Yockey. After their marriage they lived in Chanute and South Mound before moving to Erie in 1925.

Mr. Yockey was Erie postmaster for about 25 years and Mrs. Yockey worked as a clerk in the post office until her retirement in 1959. He died Jan. 27, 1960.

Survivors include one son, Merle Yockey of Erie; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Buckles and Mrs. Helen Dunlop, both of Erie; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Claudia Grugett of St. Louis, MO.

A son, Clarence Earl, preceded his parents in death.

Mrs. Yockey was a member of the Erie Christian Church, Berean Sunday Schol Class, Erie Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and the Senior Citizens Club of Erie.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Erie Christian Church with the Rev. Fred Jordan officiating. Burial was in East Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Pierce Funeral Home.
