Joseph, captured at Rogersville, GA, Nov. 6, 1863, died of disease as a prisoner of war, at the Andersonville Stockade in Macon County, GA.

He is buried in the Andersonville National Cemetery. See Memorial #51154617 for a photo of his military headstone. The inscription on the family's monument at North Royalton Cemetery is a cenotaph.
