26 COUNTY MEN INDUCTED
INTO SERVICE RECENTLY

The Selective Service Board of Roger Mills county reports the induction of 26 county men into the armed forces recently.
The men are:
L. H. Matthews, Hammon, marines

In August 1949 LH was living in/near Perry, Oklahoma.
In July 1977 LH was living in/near Oklahoma City.

OBITUARIES

L. H. Matthews

Funeral services for L. H. Matthews were conducted Thursday April 8th at 10:30 a.m. from the Hammon Church of Christ with Bro. Dwight Holland officiating. Burial followed in the Red Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.

L. H. Mathews was born September 25, 1925 at Hammon to Leburn and Eula Bell (Swafford) Matthews and passed away Monday at the age of 73. He attended Hammon Schools and then entered the US Marines in 1943 where he served his country in I Battery; 3rd Battalion 13th Marine 5th Division where he was involved in the Battle of Iwo Jima and the Occupation in Japan where he received the Bronze Star and Good Coduct Medal. After his discharge in 1946, L. H. lived in Guyman, Oklahoma, OKC and Colorado where he was a professional painter. He returned to Hammon in 1978 where he has lived since. L. H. was married to Oma Lee Mitchell in 1992. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 daughter and a grandson.

Survivors include his wife Oma Lee Matthews of the Hammon home; 6 children Gary Walker and his wife Peggy of Leedey; Gwen Drinnon and her husband Bobby of Sayre; Cathy Forster and her husband Bryron of Elk City; Susan Wilinski and her husband Darrel of OKC; Sandra Meyers and her husband Allen of OKC and Sherri Kwis and her husband Steve of Alpharetta, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and one brother Lawrence Matthews and his wife Loraine of Tucson, Arizona.
