After graduating from Hagerstown High School in 1931, she spent two years at Bridgewater College in Harrisonburg, Va. She taught preschool children in Hagerstown and Washington, D.C.

On Sept. 19, 1936, she married fellow Bridgewater alumnus Arthur Pursell of Jonesboro, Tenn., at the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren. Subsequently, they moved to Knoxville, Tenn., Chicago, and back to Washington, where Arthur worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the State Department in the field of agricultural credit.

Besides being a homemaker, Marguerite became an antiques dealer in the 1960s, specializing in French china. They retired to the Brethren Home at Cross Keys Village in New Oxford, Pa., where Arthur died in 1993. Marguerite later bought an apartment in Leisure World of Maryland and spent her last years living in Sunrise at Montgomery Village.

Her sister, Miriam Bostetter Bowers, and half brothers Wilbur and Leonard Bostetter and half sisters Pearl, Fannie, and Rozella Bostetter, all of Hagerstown, preceded her in death.
