George was born the son of John Wolford in Illinois.

The 1870 census for DeWitt County, town of Waynesville shows a John Wolford, born in Wertenberg Germany.

Below is the only census I can find George listed in:
census 1920 Salt River, Shelby Co, MO
Wolford, George head laborer
[George's father listed as being born in Germany. George lived on North 2nd Street, Shelbina]

George's father, John, may have married a widower, Eliza Ann Moore-Richards, after the death of her husband Enoch Stewart Richards. One of Eliza's sons, Edmond C. Richards, became George's half-brother. Edmond C. Richards married Lillie Mae Boram, daughter of Aaron and Sarah Jane Boram, of Waynesville, DeWitt County IL.

John Henry Richards, son of Edmond C. Richards, was informant on George's death certificate.
