Lois Humphrey Chafin , 72, of Grottoes, died Friday, May 18, 2007, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Mrs. Chafin was born May 17, 1935, in Washington, D.C., and was a daughter of the late Gregory and Frances Stea.

She was a cook at Park Place (VMRC) until retiring. She was a member of the Capitol Baptist Church in Falls Church, where she lived until 1987.

On May 6, 1981, she married, Donald R. Chafin , who preceded her in death Sept. 1, 1990.

She is survived by nine children, Les Kennedy of Maryland, Greg Kennedy of North Carolina, Marie Bushlow of Woodbridge, Frances Forshee of Winchester, James Kennedy and Alice Kennedy of Warrenton, Robert Kennedy of Woodbridge, Victoria Minnick of Waynesboro, and Rheanna Harville of Georgia; a sister, Emily Armentrout of Harrisonburg; 18 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Chafin will be cremated at Lindsey Funeral Home and Crematory in Harrisonburg. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren with Pastor Bob Johnson officiating.
