Theodore Hagaman died of paralysis at the Woldorf Astoria Hotel, New York City, Sept. 11, 1900. Born in Poughkeepsie NY, March 31, 1839. In 1843 his father removed his family to pine Plains, NY., where he engaged in the hotel business. As a boy Theodore attended the district schools in Pine Plains, and for a short time Rhinbeck Academy on the Hudson.
At 13 years of age he secured a position as news agent on the steamboat "Reindeer" running on the Hudson river, through the influence of his brother-in-law, Greenwood Beneway, who was steward of the boat. But 2 of the 3 trips had been made when the boat's boiler had exploded and Steward Beneway was killed.
