Charles Franklin Valentine was born September 19, 1880, in Frederick County, Maryland, the son of John William and Sarah Alice Ecker Valentine. On January 1, 1903, he married Bertha Adella Hyser, daughter of Benjamin J. and Anna C. Barnhart Hyser. They were the parents of 4 children: Nellie Mary, Nadine Burnett, Charles William and Betty Jane Valentine. Charles passed away on October 4, 1963, in New Oxford, Adams County, Pennsylvania, and was buried on the 7th in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania.


From the WW1 Draft Registration Card, September 12, 1918: Charles Franklin Valentine, 37, of Sprankle? Avenue, Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania, was born September 19, 1880. He was employed as an Electrical Welder for Ames Chair Company. His nearest relative was Bertha A. Valentine, of the same address. He was medium in height and build, with brown eyes and dark hair.


From the WWII Draft Registration Card, 1942: Charles Franklin Valentine, 61, of RD #1, Oxford, Adams County, Pennsylvania, was born September 19, 1880, in Frederick County, Maryland. He was employed by Charles H. Culson at 14 Fourth Street, Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania.The person who would always know his address was Bertha Valentine, of the same address.

Obituary for Charles Franklin Valentine from the Gettysburg Times of Saturday, October 5, 1963 as well as the New Oxford Item of Monday, October 10, 1963:

"Charles Franklin Valentine, 83, formerly of 507 Penn St., Hanover, died Friday at 1:45 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren Home, New Oxford R. 1, where he was a guest since April, 1962. The Adams County coroner, Dr. C. G. Crist, said the death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. He was a son of the late John W. and Sarah Alice Ecker Valentine. His wife, Mrs. Bertha Adella Valentine, died May 26, 1955. Surviving are four children, Mrs. Samuel Bowman, Hanover R. 5; Mrs. Paul Orendorff, Hanover; Chief Warrant Officer Charles William Valentine, Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Richard Bevenour, Spring Grove R. 2; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Stella Harner, Hagerstown, Md., and Lee Valentine, Hanover. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover. Rev. Charles W. Coates, assistant pastor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery at Hanover."
