Funshin Lew was born on 21st November 1922 and raised in Canton, China. She was the eldest of three daughters and two sons to Liu Chung Pang and Chap Yee Sin. She passed away peacefully on 26th September in Seattle, WA at the age of 89.

Funshin married Ho Wan Hing at the age of 25 and immigrated to Johannesburg, South Africa in 1947. She had a son Edward and two daughters, Queenie and Molly. Her husband passed away in 1954 and as a single mother she raised her three children in a foreign country where she initially could not speak any English. Fortunately there were several relatives there to assist her.

She managed the grocery store in Bezuidenhout Valley, Johannesburg that her husband owned and later expanded that store into adjacent premises. In 1975 she moved her business to a store across the street and managed that store with her daughter-in-law Yun Hing until she sold that business and retired in 1983.

When Edward immigrated to the United States in 1997 she lived with Queenie and her family. In 2006 she moved to Seattle to join Edward and family.

She was a most generous and caring person who had a cheerful smile and always prepared to do whatever she could to assist other people. She was devoted to her family and she especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funshin is survived by her son Edward, daughter-in-law Yun Hing, daughters Queenie and Molly, son-in-law Norman; her grandchildren Beverly, Antony, Harold, Trevor, Natalie, Sheryl, Gillian and Gavin; grandchildren-in-law Mark, Donna, Marcus, Lance and Brandon and great-grandchildren Hailey, Emily, Evelyn, Ryan and Callum .

A memorial service will be held at Flintofts Funeral Home on 5th October 2012 at 3 pm followed by a memorial dinner at Top Gun Restaurant in Bellevue.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Funshin to benefit the Seattle Chinese Alliance Church.
