Morris Cecil Rhodes, 68, of Big Spring, Texas, died on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
He was born on June 1, 1936, in Snyder, Texas and married Sandra Neas on January 23, 1959 in Abilene, Texas.
Morris graduated from Big Spring High School and from Hardin-Simmons University. After graduation he went to work for Cosden Oil and Chemical. He then went to work for Guthrie Oil & Gas and had worked there for over 25 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Pastor's Sunday School Class. He was a longtime member and past president of the Lions Club. He had served as secretary-treasurer of the Big Spring Country Club for over twenty years and had also served as president.
Morris loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf and dominoes.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Rhodes of Big Spring; his daughter and son-in-law, Neasa and Brandon Iden of Luther; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Michelle Rhodes of Coahoma; his grandchildren, Berkley, Brayden, Braxton, Reagan, Mia and Brynlea; one brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Charlotte Rhodes of Amarillo and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Alma Rhodes; one son, Derek Rhodes and one brother, Joe Rhodes.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Haney, John Freeman, Gerald Wooten, Ellis Britton, Jim Mathews and Kimball Guthrie. Honorary pallbearers will be A. C. Neighbors, Duane Thomas, C. G. Griffin, Bob Stewart, A. J. Pirkle, James Welch, R. H. Weaver, Howard Carleton, Jack Cook, Bill McClendon, B. Broadrick, Wayne Henry, Jackie Thomas and Delnor Poss.
