Jule A. Votraw, a well known and highly respected citizen of Au Sable Forks, New York, died at his home at 8 o'clock Friday evening, March 18, 1932. Mr. Votraw had been confined in bed for six days. Pneumonia proved his fatal illness.

Mr. Votraw had been a resident of Au Sable Forks for 67 years. He was born on June 8, 1864, in the section of the town known as the Grove. During his life he saw Au Sable Forks grow from a group of small houses to the prosperous community of today. He started working for the J. & J. Rogers Company 54 years ago at the age of 13.

Later in life he moved to Hammondsville, New York, near Crown Point, and married Delia Riley. They returned to Au Sable Forks and for 37 years he was boiler engineer at the pulp mill of the Rogers Company.

Eight years prior to his death he was taken with an illness which resulted in his retirement from work. Plans were being made by the family for the celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Votraw, which was to lake place the coming Christmas.

Mr. Votraw was the father of 16 children. He was survived by his wife, eight sons, Albert, Urgil, Thomas and John of Au Sable Forks; Wilbur, Joseph, William of Syracuse, New York, and Clarence of Southold, Long Island; also three daughters, Mrs. Freeman Kyea and Mrs. George Pelkey, jr., of Au Sable Forks and Mrs. Clifford Roberts of Hatfield, Massachusetts; two brothers, Charles and James of Au Sable Forks and one sister, Mrs. Melvina Messier of Marquette, Michigan; seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. There were four living generations until Mr. Votraw died.

His funeral was held from Holy Name church in Au Sable Forks, Monday morning, March 21, 1932 at 9 o'clock, Rev. Father Kitts officiating at a requiem high mass, which was attended by many sorrowing relatives and friends. The pallbearers were Fred Sorrell, Paul Landry, George Pelkey, sr., Nelson Ano, Joseph Soulier and Euclide Deloria.
