Retired Farmer, 75, Fatally Burned in Trailer Fire

A 75-year-old retired Springdale farmer died Monday night in a Madison hospital after he was severely burned when his trailer home caught fire near Mt. Vernon late Monday, Nov. 1, afternoon.

He was Ole Lingard, who had been living in his Mt. Vernon trailer home since he retired from his farm 10 years ago. Stove blamed according to Mt. Horeb and Dane county police, Lingard apparently started a fire in a stove in the trailer and it went out of control. They said his clothing caught fire as he attempted to beat out the flames. Police said the resultant burns apparently were cause of death.

Two sons preceded him in death: Joseph L., who died in 1944, and Henry W. who died in 1935. A sister, Christina, and three brothers, Tom, Inger, and Albert also preceded him in death.
