Jerry Cvitanich, November 19, 1926 - November 4, 2011, resident of San Jose, was born in San Jose, California to parents Fred and Jenny of Split, Croatia. Jerry grew up in a small house on River Street with his older brother Johnny. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in 1956 he married the love of his life, Sheila Blackwood, in a simple ceremony at the San Jose Court House. Their relationship was a lifelong romance. They had their first dinner as husband and wife at their favorite restaurant, Original Joe's, and later spent their wedding night in their newly purchased home where he lived until his passing. Jerry worked as a letter pressman at the Rosicrucian Press from 1946 until his retirement in 1986. Jerry was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed camping with his family. He was a generous man, and it was not uncommon to see him walking through the neighborhood sharing his fisherman's catch with friends. The front porch of the Cvitanich home was a regular gathering place where on any given day one could find several neighbors telling jokes and discussing current events. Jerry will be remembered for his many fish stories, his infectious smile, and his warm sense of humor. Attended by a loving family, Jerry died peacefully in his sleep at home from complications due to Parkinson's Disease. Jerry leaves his wife Sheila of 55 years and his two children, Jerrold (Jerry) and Stephanie, as well as his three grandchildren Joel, Brian, and Robert. He also leaves behind many other family members, friends and neighbors who touched his life in countless ways and whose lives he touched in return. The family would like to extend their personal thanks to the caregivers who devoted their time and comforting care to Jerry's personal needs.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in Jerry's name to the Parkinson's Institute and Clinical Center, 675 Almanor Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94085 (800-655-2273).
