Harold H. True, age 92, of Lamar, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood where he had been a resident for the past year.

Harold was born February 1, 1920, at Breman, Kansas one of the six children of Henry and Marie (Rengstorf) True. He graduated from high school in Marysville, Kansas and attended St. John's College. On November 21, 1941 at Marysville, he married Wilma Sawyer and they had shared 61 years together before her death January 15, 2003. Harold was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Everett, Roland, and Arlow True; and a sister, Rosann Benshoff.

At age 19, Harold managed a J.C. Penney store in Monett, MO, a career interrupted by World War II. He entered the Army in 1943, serving as a medical supply officer and earning the rank of Captain before retiring in 1946. He and Wilma settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Harold was a sales supervisor for Kraft Foods for more than 20 years. Moving to Lamar in 1981, they managed the Lamar Country Club for 10 years. Harold was an avid golfer and founded the Lamar Open Tournament. He enjoyed the challenge and fellowship of card games, especially when it involved family and friends.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Bill & Carol Alt, St. Louis, Missouri, Dennis & Terri True, Lamar, Brad & Mary True, El Dorado Springs, Missouri; a sister, Ardene Gilbert, Reading, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Sean (Christy) True, Greendale, WI, Glenn True, Rochester, MN, Melissa (Thomas) McLarin, Rochester, Josh (Becky) Alt, St. Louis, Elizabeth (Jason) Barnett, St. Louis, Caitlin and Colleen True, Lamar; 9 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3rd, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Galen Friedrichs officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Daniel Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
