Helen Marie Adams Walker Flynn was born January 2, 1930 in Seattle, Washington. Her first job was at age 14 at Virginia Mason Hospital where she worked setting up food trays for patients. Helen graduated from Franklin High School in 1947.

Upon graduation Helen moved to Winthrop where in 1948 she married Allen Walker. Their first home was a small farm just outside town. Life there was challenging for a city girl moved to the country. She enjoyed the experiences of farm living, milking cows, feeding chickens and occasionally being chased by a rooster. Together they had two children. Gary was born in 1949 and Gayle in 1951. Helen became active as a Cub Scout Den Mother with her son and as a Camp Fire Girl's leader with her daughter. In 1958 the family moved to Omak where her husband worked for the Creamery. In 1961, Helen was hired as a Draftsman in the Engineering Department for the USDA and the Okanogan National Forest. Helen was one of the first women to be allowed to work outside the office on a road survey crew.

Following a divorce from Allen, Helen transferred to Wenatchee and worked for the Wenatchee National Forest. Helen remarried in 1969 to Jack Flynn. While in Wenatchee, Helen was active with the Theater as well as the Youth Circus and she was a very active Bowler. Helen also learned to snow ski at age 40 at Mission Ridge and was able to enjoy the sport with her kids and grandkids.

After 17 years with the Wenatchee National Forest, Helen and Jack moved to Enumclaw. They needed closer medical attention for Jack, so Helen was able to transfer to the Mt. Baker Snoqualamie National Forest office there. Helen retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 1992 after 31 and a half years of service. Helen still continued bowling in a league and participated in state and national women's bowling tournaments.

One of Helen's joys of life was spending time with her grandchildren. She taught them many things like gardening, arts and crafts, how to consume lots of candy, the joys of shopping a sale and the difference between right and wrong.

Helen is survived by son Gary (Pat), his children Torrey (deceased), Heidi, Creek, Clover and Hannah. Also daughter Gayle (Randall Hanford) and their children Brooke (Jim Hemple), Brian (Tracy), Josh (Megan) as well as stepson Larry and his children Jackson and Rita. Helen is also survived by many wonderful great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by husbands Allen and Jack and granddaughter Torrey.
