DEATH OF GEORGE W. MOTE

Brother of Carthage City Clerk Succumbs at 51

George Wesley Mote, 51, a resident of Joplin about 20 years and brother of J. H. H. Mote, city clerk of Carthage, died at 10 o'clock yesterday morning at his home in Joplin. He had been in ill health three months and the last six weeks his condition had been critical.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the South Methodist Episcopal church, corner of Seventh & Moffet streets, Joplin. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery [sic] near Joplin. Members of the Joplin I.O.O.F. lodge, of which Mr. Mote was a member will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Mote was born in Saline county, Missouri. His parents later moved to Arkansas and from there to Aurora. He spent several years in California before going to Joplin to live. Mr. Mote was a member of the Joplin police force from about 1913 to 1921. Since retiring from the force he had followed the carpenter trade.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lida Mote; two sons, the Rev. Basil Mote, pastor of the Waynesville M. E. church, and Howard Mote at home; three brothers J. H. H. Mote of Carthage, J. M. Mote of Strasbury, MO., and W. S. Mote of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and a sister, Mrs. Stella Buttram of Wyandotte, Oklahoma.
