ST. JOHNSVILLE. March 20—Michael James Sullivan, 72, died late yesterday afternoon March 19, 1951 at his home on Ann Street, after. a long illness.

Mr. Sullivan was born in Syracuse May 29. 1878, the son of Thomas and Mary Coffey Sullivan.

He was graduated from the Solvay High School and the Munro Collegiate Institute. He then took up the study of law at Syracuse University. For a short time Mr. Sullivan carried on tho practice of law in Syracuse, but was forced to give it up because of his health.

He was advised to spend his time in rural areas. Mr. Sullivan then became a teacher and taught in various schools in Fulton and Montgomery Counties over a period of 42 years.

For the last 17 years of his teaching he retired in June, 1941, he taught in District No. 2 School in South St. Johnsville. He was a member of the St. Johnsville Grange of which he was past master and of the Montgomery
Pomona Grange, also the state and national granges. He was a member of the Auskerada Lodge of Odd Fellows.

He was married in 1905 to Nancy Heroth, who survives with three daughters; Mrs. Robert Cullings, Mariaville; Mrs. Arden O'Brien, St. Johnsville and Mrs. Harry Horman, Batavia; one son Fred Sullivan, St. Johnsville, also ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home. The Rev. Clifford Butterer of St. Paul's Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery
