PEASLEEVILLE — Herman A. "Bud" Gehrke, 84, of the Peasleeville Road, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Centuria, Wis., Oct. 22, 1928, the son of Herman R. and Priscilla C. (Stone) Gehrke.

Following graduation, Bud worked a ranch in Montana before enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country as a heavy equipment operator in Germany. While on leave from the

service, he met the love of his life at the Statue of Liberty and she would later become his wife. They were married, August 29, 1953 in the Peru Community Church.

Bud was the supervisor of roads and grounds for the Plattsburgh Air Force Base and retired following 30 years of dedicated service. He was a 45 year member of the AuSable River Masonic Lodge, past member of the Norco Shrine Club, present member of the

Peru Community Church, Plattsburgh Moose Lodge, AuSable Forks American Legion Post 504, a life member and former officer of the Peru VFW Post 309, and a past Clinton County Council Commander.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman who shared his love and knowledge with family members and friends. Bud's kindness and love touched many whom proudly called him "Papa" or "Uncle Bud". Always sharing the "twinkle in his eye and his infamous wink".

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Doris (Wright) Gehrke; daughter, Teri Nelson and her husband, Rocky of Louisville, Ky.; one son, Herman Jr. "Son" and his wife Tina of Morrisonville; four grandchildren, Casey Nelson and his wife, Alana, Brady Nelson, and Kelly and Dustin Gehrke; brother, Derald and his wife, Gerry of Fla.; and a very special niece, Dawn (Gehrke) Gushlaw; his loving cat, Sougi; and many family and friends who adored him.

He was predeceased by his parents; step-father, Otto Nelson; brother, Albert Dube Gehrke; and sister, Priscilla Gehrke.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A memorial service with military honors will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Parker, officiating. A gathering will follow at the Peru VFW Post 309.

Burial will be held at a later date in the Peasleeville Cemetery.
