Lawson Elliott Jones, 87, died October 29, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital. The son of Paul M. and Nancy Lawson Jones, he was born Oct. 10, 1925. Slightly impaired with cerebral palsy at birth, he attended Hale Cook Elementary School, RJ Delano School, and was graduated from Central High School and William Jewell College. Lawson worked at First National Bank in Liberty, Mo., before attending the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita, Kan., where he took classes and was on the staff. In partnership with his uncle, Lawson ran a Western Auto Supply Store in Chillicothe, Mo., for a short time. Lawson then went into the construction business: building duplexes, managing them and remodeling rooms for clients. Lawson was the friendliest, most outgoing person; he knew everyone and would do anything for them. They, in turn, loved him, for he was fun and caring, always ready for a laugh, or to scold someone who took life too seriously. He was generous with his money and time. He was a longtime member of The Kansas City County Club. Lawson was active for 25 years in the Faith and Fellowship Group at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. He was an outstanding photographer, and took six trips with "Through the Lens" tours. He learned from the group, and as a result was able to capture on film the marvelous faces of people in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran; as well as the incredible animals from the Galapagos and Gorillas from the former Zaire. In 1971, he embarked on a Round the World Tour. Through the years he took pictures throughout the Far East, India, Africa, South America, Alaska and the Northwest Territories. His Bishop Spencer friends often viewed his gallery of photos at Bishop Spencer Place, as well as his collection of objects d'art from his world travels. Lawson was a long time Chiefs fan. He had season tickets from their beginning until he was no longer able to make trips to the stadium (just a few years ago). Chiefs memorabilia lined his kitchen from top to bottom, and he continued to watch all the games on television. Although he couldn't play sports himself, he loved them all: football (Go Mizzou!), basketball, golf, baseball. Survivors include his brother, Russell Scarritt Jones (Joy), his sister, Nancy Reed, nieces, Grace Jones Nowlin (Brad), and Kate Reed Finberg (Max), and nephews, Russell Scarritt Jones, Jr., (Susan), and Douglas Elliott Jones (Jennifer), and Houck Scarritt Reed (Laura), and 13 great nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Bishop Spencer Place, 4301 Madison Avenue, KCMO 64111. Interment: Private services at Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of your choice. D.W. Newcomer's Sons Funeral Homes, Cemeteries, Crematories.816-931-7777 www.stineandmcclure.com
