Kathryn Chavez of Seattle, adoring partner to Phyllis, loving daughter to Sandra and John and abiding sister and aunt, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in Seattle. She was 45.

Kathryn was raised in Redlands, CA until the age of 12 when she moved to Seattle, WA. During her childhood years she attended Sacred Heart School. She was an avid swimmer, butterfly being her stroke, and was a member of the swim team for several years. She loved visiting both sets of her grandparents and loved cooking Mexican food with her Gramma Chavez.

After moving to Seattle, Kathryn attended St. Joseph's Academy in Magnolia and was a graduate of Holy Names Academy in Seattle. She attended community college, focused of nursing and was employed by Providence Hospital/Swedish Medical Center and worked as the Same Day Surgery Co-ordinator. Kathryn was a tireless worker for patient rights, and her most notable were for patients suffering from AIDS and crippling diseases. She loved working with children with disabilities.

Kathryn's oldest and dearest friend in the world, Brent, shared almost three decades of friendship with her, through all the good and sometimes very hard times that life seems to hold for us. She was the catalyst that brought his beloved partner, John, into his life over twenty years ago, and they have weathered some terrible sorrows during those years, but always there for one another.
They shared a love of Boxers, and sometimes the houses seemed just full of these wonderful dogs.
They traveled together and made fabulous meals as they were all outstanding cooks and bakers.

Her best girlfriend, Angie, and long time neighbor, shared so many wonderful years together doing home remodeling, gardening, cooking and just plain loving life. They shared a love of dogs and took their ''pack'' on long walks and to the beach and had fantastic times as neighbors, along with Darrel ''Daddy'' who brought his own special love and laughter to their friendship.

Kathryn's lifelong passions included the outdoors; camping, wildlife photography, gardening, but
mostly the oceans, and spending time with her family and wonderful friends. She brought laughter to every part of her life as well as those she counted as friends.

In the past several years Kathryn's most cherished time was that which she spent with her partner, Phyllis, vacationing in Hawaii, which was her favorite place on earth, and exploring their life together. They loved each other so much, and they filled their home with beauty. Kathryn was a wonderful cook and they enjoyed entertaining friends and family and taking long drives in the Porsche convertible. Her passion for her beloved Boxers, Otis Peabody, Piggy, Paco and Ginger knew no bounds. Kathryn was able to get to know her sisters-in-law, Teresa and Catherine just recently, and enjoyed them so much.

Kathryn is survived by her mother, Sandy and father, John and two brothers, David and John. She really loved and admired her brothers so much; and they loved their ''crazy, funny'' sister right back. She loved her sister-in-laws, Janet and Tamera; and family functions were always a blast.

Kathryn had three nephews, Cole, age 11, Christian, age 9, Cameron, age 5 and one niece, Ava, age 3 whom she adored; and the feeling was mutual, as they loved their Auntie Kat with reckless abandon. Anytime spent with her was always filled with laughter, love and great fun!

Kathryn is also survived by her Uncle Gary, who, as a special needs person, shared a very close and loving relationship with her and they had many special times together.

Kathryn's is also survived by her Great Aunt, Rosemary Roenick and her husband, Uncle Harry, and their extensive family on the East Coast. She leaves behind her Uncle Phillip Chavez, Aunt Kay and cousins Monica, Terri, Marie, and Phillip and their families.

Kathryn had many friends of the heart whom she also considered as her family in a very true sense. These included Duane, Jerome, Adrianna and Darline. Also, the Fox family were near and dear to her heart always. Everyone called her ''Auntie'' or just ''Kat'', and she had a heart big enough to hold all of them. Kathryn was a daughter to be loved and cherished, and as her mother, I can say that I could not have been more proud of the young woman that she became. I am so grateful for the wonderful, loving, fun and yes, sometimes crazy years we had together individually and with our entire family. She will be terribly missed by all of her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched in such a special way.
