JOE F. SKOCNY
Joe Frank Skocny, son of Joseph and Frances Shipek Skocny, was born May 29, 1908 at Cuba, Kansas, and died December 25, 1973 at his home near Cuba, at the age of 65 years, six months and 26 days. He grew up in the Cuba community, and attended the Silverthorn School. He worked as a nurseryman his entire life; and it was while he was tending his plants that he died.
He was united in marriage to Leona Benyshek on October 8, 1932. The couple had one daughter.
He was baptized in the United Presbyterian church of Cuba in 1964. Mr. Skocny was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, in Concordia and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Belleville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Kayleen Henriksen and her husband, Russell of Courtland; two grandchildren, Terry Lee and Carolyn Kayleen Henriksen; one sister, Mary Fridrich of Agenda.
Memorial services were held December 28 at the United Presbyterian church, Cuba, with the Rev. Fred Mansfield officiating. Burial was at the Kopsa Cemetery.
