Ann Homer Black, 94, joined her beloved Kenny, October 21, 2012. Born in New Salem, Pa., April 22, 1918, she graduated from Uniontown High School, and later, from Uniontown Office Training School.

During World War II, Ann worked for the War Manpower Commission in the Panama Canal Zone where she met Lt. Kenneth Black, a fighter pilot instructor for the Army Air Corps. In 1946, Ken and Ann returned to Ohio where they wed June 23rd, then moved to Doylestown, Ohio where Ken began his career as a high school teacher and coach. After their only child, Cheryl Ann, entered kindergarten, Ann worked as secretary to the Doylestown superintendent of schools for nine years. Having earned her B.S. Degree cum laude from Akron University in 1966, Ann taught fourth grade in Doylestown until her retirement in 1981. She was often honored at class reunions as "favorite teacher." A Doylestown resident from 1946 to 2009, Ann served in a host of civic organizations. A dedicated member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church, she served in many capacities. Ann relocated to Las Cruces, NM, in March 2009. A devoted wife to Ken and mother to Cherie, Ann's kindness, positive nature, and generosity endeared her to all she met. Her quick sense of humor will be fondly remembered. Because her hair retained its light brown color with very little gray, she often referred to herself as 'a slow turner'!

Survived by her daughter, Cheryl Black; son-in-law, Glen Wilkins; and granddaughter, Kennetha Black; all of Las Cruces, NM, she will also be missed by the children and grandchildren of Glen's and Cherie's blended families. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Anna Homer of Connellsville, Pa.; two brothers, Peter of Eugene, Ore., and Stephen of Connellsville, Pa.; and her beloved Kenneth, who died in 1988.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Doylestown United Methodist Church, June 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Ann Black Scholarship Fund, DUMC, 153 Church St., Doylestown, OH, 44230.
