Charles served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-17G #43-38124, 351st Bomber Squadron, 100th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 24, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in construction and also as Married.

Charles was "Killed In Action" when B-17 #42-31066, which was hit by enemy flak, fell and struck his B-17 causing it to crash near Hamburg, Germany during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
