Obituary published in the Erie Times-News, from September 8 to September 11, 2009, Erie, Pennsylvania:

Mark was an admirable man whose life positively impacted those whom knew him. He was an enthusiastic leader who lovingly invested in his family and took pride in all that he did. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his friends and family members. Mark, who was a member of Wesleyville's Class of 1965, graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and went on to secure an M.B.A. with Distinction from Pace University.

Mark married his wife, Linda, in 1972, and they just recently celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on August, 19.

He began his 29 year career at GTE Operations in Erie as an Equipment Engineer. His career took him and his family all over the United States, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, Texas, California, Georgia, and Florida. In each new place, he encouraged his family to learn about the world around them, grow in character, and take joy in the little things of life.

Mark retired from GTE Wireless in 2000 as the Vice President of Technology and Area Networks. Mark also worked as the Senior Vice President of Engineering and Operations at the At Home Corporation, and as the Senior Vice President of Networks at El Paso Global Networks.

An avid adventurer and life-long learner, Mark enjoyed SCUBA diving, boating, photography, genealogy, reading, action shooting, and hiking. An Eagle Scvout himself, Mark proudly volunteered as a Scout Master in Boy Scouts of America, including participating in trips to Philmont and Florida Sea Base. He proudly helped both sons earn their Eagle Scouts as well. It has been a special joy for him to see his grandson start Cub Scouts this year. Mark was a member of Woodland Baptist Church where he was part of a Life Group and other ministries.

Mark is survived by his wife, two sons and their wives, one married daughter and her husband, two grandsons, one brother, three aunts, and one uncle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael M. Ripley, a sister, Merry B. Ripley, an uncle, Robert Dennison, and an aunt, Nancy Briggs.
