The Portville Review, Portville, Cattaraugus County, NY - Feb 22, 1945

From the Buffalo Evening News we take the following article which refers to the son of a former Eldred boy, Howard McFall.

In the bitter struggle for the Heurtgen Forest in Germany, Pfc Howard F. McFall, Jr., 20, so of Mr. and Mrs. Howard F. McFall of Buffalo, was killed November 17. A letter from Maj. Gen Terry Allen, commanding the division in which he was serving informed his parents that he "died a hero's death," but gave no details. Graduated from Neumann School in Williamsville, he was employed by the Houde Engineering Division and Sears Roebuck & Co before he entered the service Feb 26, 1943. After training in the ASTP at the University of Illinois he was transferred to the infantry. Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Seaman (2d Class) James Edward McFall, USNR, in the Atlantic, and John Thomas McFall. His grandfather, Fred McFall resides in Eldred.
