DANVILLE, Va. - Chesley Jaqueline Grubbs Poteat, 70, of 812 Holland Road, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Danville Regional Medical Center as the result of a car accident on Red Marshall Road.

Born June 27, 1934 in Danville, she was the daughter of the late John acey Grubbs and the late Gladys South Grubbs.

She lived in Danville and worked in Dan River Mills prior to moving to Richmond for several years. She returned to Danville nine years ago.

She was employed in research and development with Phillip Morris for 30 years. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and served as the American Legion Auxiliary chaplain and as a Homeland Security Officer.

She married William Taylor Poteat Sr. on June 6, 1953.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, William T. Poteat Jr. of Gladstone, Mo. and Thomas Leon Poteat of Danville; three sisters, Elizabeth Fender McCalla of Alabama, Marsha Pinnick of Marion, Va. and Sheila Sickinger of Church Road, Va.; three brothers, Rodger Grubbs of Petersburg, Robert Grubbs of Sutherlin and David Grubbs of Petersburg; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one step-grandchild.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Delano Grubbs and Willard A. Grubbs.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Douglas Milliner and the Rev. Albert Moser officiating. Interment will be in Schoolfield Cemetery with graveside military honors by American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. before the service at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence, 812 Holland Road

Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
