Powell Tribune no. 9 May 14, 1920, page 1:

The Powell community was shocked last Tuesday upon learning of the death of Peter M. Peterson. It was generally known that he was in a very unfavorable condition of health, but his friends were little prepared to receive the sad tidings that he had died so suddenly. Peter Martin Peterson was one of the most highly regarded and one of the most likable farmers of the Powell valley settlement. He comes to his death in just the prime of life, when he and his wife had begun to enjoy the fruits of their pioneering and had acquired that degree of worldly goods which might permit of their planning to take on more of the comforts of life and endure less of its hardships. Last winter Mr. Peterson contracted the influenza, and had never since recovered his strength. The resultant complications lingered in his system and so weak in bodily strength did he become that he and Mrs. Peterson were compelled to abandon the trip to a warmer climate of the south which they had planned for his benefit.

Peter Martin Peterson was born at Wiota, Wisconsin, March 3, 1878, and died May 11, 1920, at the age of 43 years, 2 months and 8 days. In this little town of his nativity he grew to manhood. He received schooling and business college training at Dixon, Illinois and later went to South Wayne, Wisconsin where he engaged in business with a partner in the operation of a general store. In May 1906, he left South Wayne to take up his residence at Alma Center, Wisconsin. At the time of his leaving there, the local newspaper of South Wayne expressed its regrets as follows: "Mr. Peterson has lived in our community since childhood and is a young man of staunchest integrity and honor-the type of young man which every community is proud to number among its citizens, and whom it sorely misses from its midst. Everyone knows and likes 'Pete'. He has been our town clerk for a number of terms and could no doubt have been re-elected indefinitely had he remained among us."

After engaging in business at Alma Center, Mr. Peterson made the acquaintance and married Grace Buckley. It was soon after their marriage that Mr. and Mrs. Peterson decided to leave Wisconsin and come to Powell, Wyoming. This was in October 1908, and their homestead filing was among the earliest of the project's settlers. On this valuable homestead, just to the west of Powell, they have resided for the past twelve years.

In his death, Peter Peterson leaves to mourn his loss, besides his wife, a father at Wiota, Wisconsin; a brother Oscar at South Wayne, Wisconsin; a sister, Bertha Wang of Wiota, Wisconsin; a brother, L.E. Peterson, business man of Powell. His father and brother Oscar are expected here Saturday to witness his burial. The deceased had been brought up in the Lutheran faith, but shortly after coming to Powell became a communicant of the Protestant Episcopal church, and was a faithful helper in the work of St. John's mission. He was prominent as a Mason and a member of the Eastern Star, being a past master of the former, and a past patron of the latter.

The earthly remains of this good citizen will be laid to rest Sunday afternoon at Crown Hill cemetery. The time of the funeral service at the church is announced for 2:30 o'clock. The sermon will be preached by Rev. Haupt, and the local Masonic order will have charge of the ceremonies.
