Col. Allen H. Foreman (U.S. Army ret.), 94, a resident of Kane since 1986, formerly of Tionesta and Oil City, died Thursday, August 19, 2004, in North Arundel Hospital, Glen Burnie, MD.

Born February 26, 1910, in Tionesta, he was the son of Vivian and Hazel Foreman. When pre-school age, the family moved to Oil City where he attended public school.

After graduation in 1928 from high school, Col. Foreman worked as a reporter for the Oil City Blizzard until January 1929 when he entered Maryville College in Tennessee.

In May 1930 he enlisted in the Army and served as a private in the 29th Infantry at Fort Benning, GA., until July 1931 when he entered the United States Military Academy at West Point. He graduated from West Point and was commissioned as a second lieutenant with the Class of 1935.

During World War II, Col. Foreman served overseas from July 1942 to August 1945 as a tank destroyer officer in Tunisia and Italy and then with the First U.S. Army in the drive from Normandy to Leipzig.

During the next 20 years, he served his country as an Army officer in numerous capacities, both at home and abroad, and retired August 31, 1965, at Governors Island, NY, where he was the Assistant Chief of Staff, First U.S. Army.

Following retirement from the Army, Col. Foreman earned a master's of arts degree at Villanova University and served as an English instructor at Valley Forge Military Academy from 1966 to 1975.

Col. Foreman was a member of East Kane Methodist Church, the Rotary Club of Kane, Bucktail Chapter of the Retired Officers Association and the Society of Mayflower Descendants.

His interests included golf (he never rode in a cart), bowling, gardening, walking and discussing politics.

He married a high school classmate, the former Marjorie Luella Anderson of Oil City, December 21, 1935, and she died August 6m 1985.

On October 1, 1986, he married Mrs. L. Catherine Galbo, widow of Joseph J. Galbo, both longtime residents of Kane. She died July 10, 2000.

A memorial service will be held in Kane at a later date.

Interment was in West Point, NY.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home in Kane.
