MORTON - Our much-loved wife, mother and grandmother, Grace Lorraine (Lindholm) Johnson of Morton, Ill., passed away from complications from a stroke at the age of 82. She met Jesus face to face on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012.

She is survived by her faithful and loving husband of 57 years, Thomas William Johnson; two sons; three daughters; 13 grandchildren; and a brother.

Grace, the oldest of three children, was born in Kalgan (Zhangjiakou), China, on Aug. 10, 1930, to missionary parents, Godfrey and Ethel (Johnson) Lindholm of Minnesota. Her parents lived in northern China and Mongolia until Grace was 9. They were then advised to return to the USA because of the impending war with Japan. They returned to the farm belonging to Godfrey's father near Ortonville, Minn.

She had two brothers, Donald Lindholm (TX) and Harold Lindholm, who preceded her in death.

The family moved to Peoria, Ill., when Grace was 15 and she attended and graduated from Manual High School (1948). She stayed in Peoria and graduated from Bradley University (1953) with a degree in home economics, and there she met and fell in love with Tom. After two years of being engaged, yet separated, because of military service, Tom and Grace married at Grace Presbyterian Church on June 19, 1955.

Grace taught home economics at Limestone High School for four years before having their first child. She then fully dedicated herself to making a home in Morton, Ill., for her family, Daniel (Barbara) Johnson, and two children, Aaron and Emily of Moline, Ill.; Paul Johnson and two children, Jamila and Jeremy of Orlando, Fla.; Arlene (Matthew) Heard and three sons, Andrew, Joel and Stephen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Carol (Scott) Birkey and three daughters, Hannah, Esther and Grace of Hopedale, Ill.; and Marialice (Robert) Hatch and three children, Elena, Antonio and Liliana of Chattanooga, Tenn.

As the children got older, Grace returned to the classroom and taught at Morton Junior High School until her retirement in 1984.

Tom and Grace have been active in their church, Grace Presbyterian Church of Peoria, for 57 years. They served together as Sunday school superintendents for 10 years. In recent years, they have gathered with others from their church to pray for missionaries, pastors and families every Monday morning.

A visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Wilton Mortuary, 2101 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria, Ill. A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 607 N. Illinois Route 91, Peoria, Ill., with a lunch following the service. A graveside service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens will follow the luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Grace Presbyterian Church or InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at
