Thore E. Garth Dead.

Thore E. Garth died this morning of dropsy, at 8:00 o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bettie Filson, 327 Rural. Mr. Garth was born in Swindal County, Norway, December 22, 1812. At the age of 18 he united with the Lutheran Church. He was engaged in Lumbering and farming in Norway. In 1857 he was married to Miss Anna Carlson, and in 1872 they came to America, coming to Topeka in June of that year. After living two months in Topeka they moved to Chase County, where they lived until the death of Mrs. Garth in 1907, when Mr. Garth came to Emporia and since that time had lived with his daughter. Four years ago he joined the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, of Emporia. For several years he had suffered from a valvular defect of the heart, which twelve weeks ago developed into dropsy. Mr. Garth leaves four children, Mrs. Bettie Filson, of Emporia; G. Garth, of Madison; B. M. Garth, of Topeka, and Ed Garth of San Francisco, Calif.

Brief funeral services will be held at the house tomorrow afternoon at 12:15, conducted by the Rev. C. G. Aue, after which the body will be taken to Saffordville, on Santa Fe train No. 13, where services will be conducted, and interment made.

The Garth Funeral.

The funeral of Thore E. Garth was held at 12:15 o'clock yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bettie Filson, 327 Rural. Rev. C. G. Aue officiated. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ferris Hill, Miss Vesta Sonnedecker, Miss Anna Bowersock, Miss Dorothy Spencer, Miss Dorotha Bang, F. E. Held, Pedro Held, A. F. Myser and Davillo Spade with Miss Cora Held as organist. The pall-bearers were F. S. Reider, A. Nicholas, C. P. Theis, A. F. Myser, H. E. Proeger and J. S. McCune. The body was taken to Saffordville on Santa Fe train No. 113, where further services were held and the body interred. Mr. Aue also conducted the services at Saffordville.

Gravesite Details Thor Elingson and Anna Garth were disinterred from Hillside Cemetery 11/22/1929 and interred at MML in Section B - Lot 13 W ½ - Spaces 4 & 5.
