Mildred Pauline Ferguson Uphoff, eldest daughter of Reed Harry Ferguson and wife, Ocie Lillian (Mitchell) Ferguson was born September 1, 1919 in Torrington, Wyoming and passed away Thursday November 18, 2010 at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 91 years. She lived in Fort Collins, Colorado very early in her life but grew up in Hebron, Nebraska and graduated from Hebron High School with the class of 1937.

Mildred accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized in the Little Blue River east of Hebron, Nebraska in April of 1931 by the Reverend Glenn C. Moore, pastor of the First Christian Church of Hebron, Nebraska. She later transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Deshler, Nebraska and then when the Deshler church closed she transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Hebron, Nebraska.

Mildred was married to Erwin Alfred Uphoff on October 10, 1942 in the Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, North Carolina. To this union, one son, David was born.

Mildred was an active member of the Deshler Woman's Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Halfman Unit 352, and the Presbyterian Women. She held various offices in each of these organizations. Mildred served as Junior Sunday School teacher for 29 years and also served on the Parkview Haven Advisory Board from 1982 through November 1996. She served her church as treasurer from 1982 through 1989.

Through the years she was employed in Hebron as a telephone operator and in Deshler at the Broom factory, the Deshler Livestock Commission Company, Deshler Public Schools and the Nebraska Security Bank. She retired from the bank on September 1, 1984.

Mildred loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, they could talk her into almost anything.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Erwin, one infant brother, sisters Mary Louise Voss, Susan E. Gergen, and Marjorie R Dove.

She is survived by; her son David and his wife Jane of Cunningham, KS; grandsons; Brent and his wife Ani of Pratt, KS and Kevin and his wife Laney of Derby, KS, and a great granddaughter Riley; brother-in-law Alfred Gergen of Geneva, NE, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Following Mildred's wishes she was cremated. A memorial service will be held Monday November 22, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hebron, NE at 10:30 am. Officiant pastor Hal Rainey, organist Brenda Striggow, no visitation cremation, burial will be in Deshler City Cemetery in Deshler, NE. Memorials in care of the family. Deshler Memorial Funeral Home of Deshler, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
