Washington, Aug. 25 (AP)--The War department made public today the names of 1,687 soldiers wounded in action. Included were these Kansans:

Pvt. Arvin A. Blank, son of Gust T. Blank, Natoma; Pfc. Edwin E. Gardner, son of Clyde F. Gardner, Plainville; Pfc. Charles A. Kidd, son of Mrs. Irene Kidd.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Gardner, who live in the Rinker neighborhood, have received a telegram from the War department saying that their son, Sergeant Edward A. Gardner, Jr., was killed in action in France on August 13.

Sergeant Gardner was a member of the National Guard at Council Grove and was inducted into service on December 23, 1940. He went to England May 11 of this year. He had been in France since about July 6.

Edward A. Gardner, Jr., was born on a farm in Marion county August 10, 1918. His parents had received a letter written on his 26th birthday, which was the last letter they received from him.

Mr. and Mrs. Gardner have one other son, Corporal LeRoy Gardner, in the armed forces. He is stationed in New Guinea.

Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Merle H. Plain, of Emporia, and two brothers, Dudley and Richard, of the home.
