Walter was born 4.5 months after his grandfather passed away. He was named after Walther Matheson & Christy Johnson (both baseball players from the "Hollywood Stars" - Team that played out of Gilmore Field in Hollywood). "Chris" (as he was commonly known) did not go by Walter. He is known affectionately by his close family as "Crick". This name came as a result of his younger sister ("Dee") not being able to say "Chris" as a child, so the name just stuck.

Chris was an avid golfer. He used to golf at least once a week until he could no longer physically handle a round. He owned several sets of clubs and various golf related memorabilia. He also loved to watch golf on TV whenever it was on. Chris loved Big Band music and Frank Sinatra. Chris was also known to be a "whistler"; he whistled almost constantly when he wasn't watching TV. As Chris began to lose some of his mobility, he enjoyed relaxing at home and being entertained by daytime TV (Jerry Springer).

Retired from "Certified Freight" as a truck driver
Enjoyed golf and Golden Oldies. Served in World War 2. Wife passed away in 1995 from breast cancer. Spent remaining years in Plumas county California, in the small town of Westwood where he enjoyed meals at the local senior center (especially the liver and onions). Chris's wife Rita was a devout Jehovah's Witness; although Chris did not commit to the religion, he consistently attended meetings with his wife. Chris would often sweep the parking lot of the Kingdom Hall on a regular basis to keep it clear of debris. Chris was even honored by members of the Westwood congregation upon his passing. He is sorely missed.

Chris had a "girlfriend" named Ruby for a short time after the death of his wife. Chris and Ruby enjoyed each others company until Ruby passed. Chris became a "home-body" and enjoyed rest and relaxation until his passing.

Died of natural causes. (Age 92)
Chris shares a crematorium plate with his beloved daughter "Merrilee" who passed away in 1983.
