The funeral for LeRoy L. Eairleywine, 85, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Fremont.

He died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

He was born April 24, 1922, in Cody to Charles and Ethel Morton Eairleywine. He grew up near Cody, working for his father on the ranch. Later, he worked as a ranch hand and then he worked on a highway crew. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during the World War II years of 1942-45 with duty in the Aleutian Islands. Following military service he came to Nickerson and worked for the Sextons in their grocery store for a brief time. In 1946, he moved back to Cody, tending bar in Merriman briefly, and in 1947 he began working for the Ford Garage in Cody. In 1950, he came to Fremont and began 35 years of employment with Hormel Foods Corporation, retiring in December 1985.

LeRoy was an avid bowler, golfer, hunter and gardener. And he was a Nebraska fan. In his earlier years, he coached girls softball and boys baseball. He was a founding member of the Nickerson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He was a former member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200 and Fremont Golden K Kiwanis Club. He had belonged to United Food and Commercial Workers Local 22 union. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fremont.

He married Doris Barnes on Dec. 20, 1944. She preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 1989.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia; and a brother, Charles Clayton Eairleywine.

The Rev. Greg Hall will officiate Friday's service. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. today at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with family present from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Military honors will be rendered by the Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854.
