Thomas McWhinney (10/17/1790-7/7/1875) B-Ireland, and his wife Rosey Ann MacDowell (1782-8/15/1861) B-Ireland. Both buried in Hadley Cemetery.
Emigrated on May 24, 1834 to Genesse Co, NY. Settled in Groveland [Oakland Co., MI] in 1855.
Buried in Hadley Cemetery. Member of the Orange Society No. 1462 in Bainymaghry, Ireland.
"Thomas McWhinney died at his residence in the Town of Holly, Mich., July 7th, 1875, Mr. Thomas McWhinny, aged 84 years, 8 mo. 20 days.

"The deceased was born in County Down, Ireland, in the Parish of Kilmore, and at the age of 17, married Miss Rosey Ann McDowell, who died 14 years ago. They were both exemplary members of the Presbyterian Church and remained in good standing during their life time. They emigrated from the old country May 24, 1834 to Genesee Co. in N.Y. State, where they remained until 1855, when they came to Michigan and settled in the township of Holly, purchased a farm which is prosperously carried on and resided until the time of his death. He was a very friendly man, strictly and rigidly honest and truthful. About 60 carriages and a large concourse of people (at this busy season) followed the mortal remains of this good, kind old man to his last resting place in the beautiful Hadley Cemetery.

"He was highly respected by all who knew him. The arrangements for his funeral were made by himself, as he retained his senses to the last. He was and had been all his life an active member of the Orange Society No. 1462, Town of Barnymaghry, Ireland, and chose brethren of that order for his pallbearers, which request was complied with. A very able and appropriate sermon was preached in the M.E. Church of Groveland by the Rev. Joseph Swindt, Presbyterian minister of Holly, from Luke 12 chap, 40th v.

"The deceased left a good property to his family, accumulated by his industry and economy. He was of the old school of strict habits and principles, upright and just in all his dealings and courteous with the world. This class of men are fast passing away, but their memory will be long cherished and remembered by those who know them best. Peace to his ashes."
